The Bone Idle Traveller

May-2014-day-06-0000d

I get up, have a cup of tea or two, a shower and then

May-2014-day-06-0000e

start packing. Alan and Zoe have seen if they can get a last minute Jacobite Train Ticket. And have long got up. Me I’ve had a lie in.

May-2014-day-06-0000h

I tidy the room up

May-2014-day-06-0000g

and get ready for the off

May-2014-day-06-0000May-2014-day-06-0000i

This is it then and put my coat on.

May-2014-day-06-0001

I head down the High Street

May-2014-day-06-0002

Past the church

May-2014-day-06-0003

The visitors centre with the gondola hanging next to it

May-2014-day-06-0004

The subway art

May-2014-day-06-0005

and to the train station. I get some supplies from the Morrisons supermarket next door – too much in fact and then head into the station.

May-2014-day-06-0006

I have had a text saying they managed to get tickets and have so gone. I sit down have a cup of tea and

Nack's Fort William Postcard

write one important card.

May-2014-day-06-0007

The train is due and I head to the station platform. oh my this is one popular train. I look at the ticket I got yesterday and note that they had actually reserved me a seat on coach D. Now where will that be.

May-2014-day-06-0008b

I’m glad I have a seat, in fact I have four and a large table. Odd really as the rest of the train is rammed!

May-2014-day-06-0008c

We set off and I’m sure we are heading north not south!

May-2014-day-06-0008h

My tickets are checked and I sit back and

May-2014-day-06-0009

ponder if we will ever go south.

May-2014-day-06-0011

I enjoy the view

May-2014-day-06-0017

and my dinner.

May-2014-day-06-0018

Its a long way to Glasgow, much further than I remembered.

May-2014-day-06-0021

And this route is renowned for the views.

May-2014-day-06-0027

and eventually they come

May-2014-day-06-0029

lovely

May-2014-day-06-0031b

and then so does the rain!

May-2014-day-06-0031i

We stop at the most remote station in the UK. You know the one in Trainspotting – only now there is a hotel there!

May-2014-day-06-0031k

I tuck into more Scottish snacks

May-2014-day-06-0033

enjoy the veiw

May-2014-day-06-0034

and then we have a stop whilst the Oban train is linked to our own. The smokers vacate the train for a brief period.

May-2014-day-06-0035

We come into outer Glasgow

May-2014-day-06-0037

and then we are there

Screenshot_2014-05-26-18-07-03

So here is the route we took.

May-2014-day-06-0037b

I get off the train and into Queens Station.

May-2014-day-06-0037c

Now can I remember the way to Central Station from here.

May-2014-day-06-0038

its certainly been a while since I was here, and perhaps I should have stayed up with Alan and Zoe afterall.

May-2014-day-06-0038c

Ah Central Station.

May-2014-day-06-0038d

and in I go. I have an 45 minutes until the train.

May-2014-day-06-0039

I get a cup of tea, ask where the post box is and settle down to write some more.

May-2014-day-06-0039d

Eventually it is time to board the train. Ah comfort and a plug hole to power my phone thankgod.

May-2014-day-06-0040

My tickets are checked and we are off.

May-2014-day-06-0039b

The girl comes round offering drinks and snacks. Alan was right this isn’t quiet Virgin First Class but its not £190 either. I’m comfy and there is an unlimited amount of tea on offer, well to me.

May-2014-day-06-0039c

Perhaps that is because I’m the only person how refused the snack box. Hell everyone is jealous I’ve brought my own.

May-2014-day-06-0043

The landscape goes whizzing by.

May-2014-day-06-0042

And I enjoy another tea.

May-2014-day-06-0046

I look out of the window. I’m so enjoying this travel idly.

May-2014-day-06-0039e

We come to Oxford Street in Manchester, time to pack away my things

May-2014-day-06-0046b

I arrive at Manchester Piccadilly and head to the cafes

May-2014-day-06-0049

No more tea that's for sure and I order a hot chocolate.

May-2014-day-06-0046g

She says she’ll bring it over to me so I settle in at a table and pople watch and write some more.

May-2014-day-06-0046i

Oh lovely this really is nice.

May-2014-day-06-0046k

Time for the chu chu and off I set.

May-2014-day-06-0046n

I find the platform and there's the train.

May-2014-day-06-0046p

A long one too.

May-2014-day-06-0046r

I get on the first class carriage A

May-2014-day-06-0046s

The ticket man comes and checks me.

May-2014-day-06-0051

We are joined by a girl. he is not happy with her but she insists she is getting off at Maccesfeild and he lets her stay. It is just the three of us then including the ticket man.

May-2014-day-06-0057

I settle in and listen to some music

May-2014-day-06-0053

We pass through Stockport

May-2014-day-06-0054

Past the Plaza

May-2014-day-06-0055

and the townhall

Screenshot_2014-05-26-21-56-10

ad on comes Somewhere In My Heart by Aztec camera, now its been a long time since I’ve heard this.

May-2014-day-06-0059

At Macclesfield the girl gets off.

May-2014-day-06-0057n

And it is just me and the conductor for the rest of the journey. He even sits in front of me.

May-2014-day-06-0061

An hour latter

May-2014-day-06-0061b

And we arrive at Stafford where I get off.

May-2014-day-06-0061d

This is it then

May-2014-day-06-0061f

This is back to reality.

Screenshot_2014-05-24-17-36-55-1

Erm and what an adventure it has been. This was good.

Screenshot_2014-05-26-08-57-25-1

This was great.
