I get up, have a cup of tea or two, a shower and then
start packing. Alan and Zoe have seen if they can get a last minute Jacobite Train Ticket. And have long got up. Me I’ve had a lie in.
I tidy the room up
and get ready for the off
This is it then and put my coat on.
I head down the High Street
Past the church
The visitors centre with the gondola hanging next to it
The subway art
and to the train station. I get some supplies from the Morrisons supermarket next door – too much in fact and then head into the station.
I have had a text saying they managed to get tickets and have so gone. I sit down have a cup of tea and
write one important card.
The train is due and I head to the station platform. oh my this is one popular train. I look at the ticket I got yesterday and note that they had actually reserved me a seat on coach D. Now where will that be.
I’m glad I have a seat, in fact I have four and a large table. Odd really as the rest of the train is rammed!
We set off and I’m sure we are heading north not south!
My tickets are checked and I sit back and
ponder if we will ever go south.
I enjoy the view
and my dinner.
Its a long way to Glasgow, much further than I remembered.
And this route is renowned for the views.
and eventually they come
and then so does the rain!
We stop at the most remote station in the UK. You know the one in Trainspotting – only now there is a hotel there!
I tuck into more Scottish snacks
enjoy the veiw
and then we have a stop whilst the Oban train is linked to our own. The smokers vacate the train for a brief period.
We come into outer Glasgow
and then we are there
So here is the route we took.
I get off the train and into Queens Station.
Now can I remember the way to Central Station from here.
its certainly been a while since I was here, and perhaps I should have stayed up with Alan and Zoe afterall.
Ah Central Station.
and in I go. I have an 45 minutes until the train.
I get a cup of tea, ask where the post box is and settle down to write some more.
Eventually it is time to board the train. Ah comfort and a plug hole to power my phone thankgod.
My tickets are checked and we are off.
The girl comes round offering drinks and snacks. Alan was right this isn’t quiet Virgin First Class but its not £190 either. I’m comfy and there is an unlimited amount of tea on offer, well to me.
Perhaps that is because I’m the only person how refused the snack box. Hell everyone is jealous I’ve brought my own.
The landscape goes whizzing by.
And I enjoy another tea.
I look out of the window. I’m so enjoying this travel idly.
We come to Oxford Street in Manchester, time to pack away my things
I arrive at Manchester Piccadilly and head to the cafes
No more tea that's for sure and I order a hot chocolate.
She says she’ll bring it over to me so I settle in at a table and pople watch and write some more.
Oh lovely this really is nice.
Time for the chu chu and off I set.
I find the platform and there's the train.
A long one too.
I get on the first class carriage A
The ticket man comes and checks me.
We are joined by a girl. he is not happy with her but she insists she is getting off at Maccesfeild and he lets her stay. It is just the three of us then including the ticket man.
I settle in and listen to some music
We pass through Stockport
Past the Plaza
and the townhall
ad on comes Somewhere In My Heart by Aztec camera, now its been a long time since I’ve heard this.
At Macclesfield the girl gets off.
And it is just me and the conductor for the rest of the journey. He even sits in front of me.
An hour latter
And we arrive at Stafford where I get off.
This is it then
This is back to reality.
Erm and what an adventure it has been. This was good.
This was great.
