It had rained in the nigh, I had heard it pitter pattering on the roof in that gentle relaxing way. My sleeping bag snug. We get up have a wash and breakfast each.
We pack the tent away and everything into Les car.
And then head to the bottom of road where the cycling is to pass once more through Starbeck itself.
While the street is lined we can at least see clearly the road ahead of us.
Ohh just like yesterday the anticipation.
What is that coming donw the road?
Oh its a Skoda
A French policeman
for some it was all too much.
Les said is he for real or is he a surfer dude?
Maybe he’s thinking how do i get to the beach from here?
Can you believe it? Why get the speed camera van out? Its a race for gods sake
Oh another Skoda,
Then a motor bike
and a yellow motor bike, then….
Its the racers themselves.
The crowd goes mad for twenty seconds and then
a yellow Skoda comes down the road.
And some more racers!
Here they are.
there they go.
And here is a straggler, go mate go.
Followed by a BMW? what
And some Skoda, now that's more like it.
The French police come
Then the British
And then thats it,
all over and
the crowd disperses.
We head back to the camp site.
Go to the toliet
Get in the Les Skoda and follow Surfer dude for while, until Les says find us somewhere to go.
Les isn’t impressed. I’ve taken us to Nowhere.
We get out and check that we truly are nowhere, have a piss in the Yorkshire countryside and then take us to our real destination.
And just why have you brought us here Nack?
Believe me you’ll truly enjoy this.
Into the quaint village we walk.
I wonder what we will find here?
Perhaps this will tell us all.
At the bottom is a pub and
a very slippery slip way. Les saves me from sliding down, well when I say save me, I grabbed hold of him as I went sliding past him!
We walk the beach.
We walk the harbour.
I take some nice photos
And some not so nice ones.
A boat comes into the harbour, the seagulls squalling, the waves crashing.
whilst a sailing yacht goes silently by.
Les wants to check out the opposite side of the harbour so off we go for a walk.
It looks no prettier this side of Staithes.
The tide is out so I go for a walk on the rocks, which are flat and not slippery.
I see that yacht again.
whilst i walk next to the sea edge on my own.
well not quiet.
Over there are the highest cliffs this side of England, somewhere I took Alan and Zoe once.
I recall parking the car by that aerial mast.
I get a call from the others the car parking ticket is up so please return.
I make my way back.
I arrive at he car and suggest its tea time and I know somewhere in Whitby that would be just perfect.
And off we go
This better be good says Les.
Even Captain Cook like fish and chips here.
I take for some view to get a couple of photos and then back track on ourselves.
To this place, the Famous Whitby Fish and Chips at
The Fishman Arms.
Nice view Les?
We order and wait.
Les has gone for the healthy option of new potatoes in loads and loads of butter!
So yummy chips, mushy peas and haddock.
All gone and one settles.
down with a decent cup of tea.
Once digested its time to head home.
We walk back
and just before we leave.
Les and my brother go and get dessert from the ice cream van. Aren't they full?
And so into the the Red Skoda
For a long long jouney home
And Les drives nicely for a change
We are bakc at home some time later, all tired and ready for bed.
And I can say I never did see Jerds all weekend?
