I get up early, look the sun is out, and start to pack my bag, trying my best to say its one night only and there's no chance of hill climbing. So I use my large small bag. I load up the boot and knock the roof down. I’m going to enjoy this.
I go tot the petrol station fill up the tank and we are ready for blast northwards.
Usually on the way I would have seen many MX5’s but today there were none, well until I caught this chap up.
Into Oulton Park we go.
Through the booth
and into the Mx5 part of the circuit.
And here we park up in a field with many many other Mx5’s. On the back of mine is Maddie’s luggage rack so part of her car made it as well.
Thankgod it is sunny, cool but sunny. There are so many MX5’s to look at, but for me there is still only one worth seeing, I still only like the Mk1, I’m still only mad about the MK1.
And so I enjoy all the Mk1’s.
At each meeting there are now less and less, with so many more of the other Marks.
I still like the shape, the beauty, the simplicity.
The way you can make them unique.
It is good to see the different models and still in such good condition.
Some so nice.
Others nicer still.
And apart from mooching at the cars.
There truly wasn't much else going on.
For me that is okay.
For most though they would have been bored witless.
Some you can peek inside the bonnets.
Some are in the completions.
Some have some nice touches.
And some are just special.
And whilst taking pictures of all the MX5’s there was one I didn’t take a picture of. At first I didn’t notice its colour. To me it was dark blue but in fact it wasn’t it was black. And this was important as it had the interior the same as the M2. A special limited edition. this though was a Tokoy, only the second I had ever seen, the other at Sam Goodwins. This lucky person found this Tokyo Mx5 in a field, believed to be a broken engine, but what was actually broken was the power steering pump. Brought for £150 quid they are now the proud owners of a rare car. Me though, I’d still rather have a Metallic Dark Green VR Limited Combination B.
And in the whole place I came across only one other, left simple and neat although things where missing.
Will I never tyre of the MX5 Mk1?
Will I never tyre or looking at them?
Will I ever use the right tyre?
Well after all that walking I was tyred.
And so i went to the rip off fish and chip van for fish and chips for £8.
And it wasn’t cod, and it wasn’t haddock, that I know for sure. Was it fish one need to ask?
Next I wander around the completion cars,
ands consider that I would be having a better time plastering.
Well i might have not been thinking that.
So much love.
So much passion
And what a way to show it.
Mine slightly neglected from the last two years of conserving the wonga.
I dream of a new hood.
How can I make it happen?
I ponder, looking, lusting,
The cups will be dished out but not for mine.
I visit the Mx5 parts shop
And then go to see the unveiling of the new Mx5.
Now this I like, this looks good.
This I would swap for.
It looks so Alfa though, but maybe thats a good thing.
And then I wander around to
see the cars whizzing around.
This I did grow tyred of.
I headed back to my motor, where did I leave it?
Ah there she is.
I put my plaque in the boot.
And consider how long it had been since the last place I gone to, shocking.
And with that I turn the key and here the engine come to life.
From here we head east, we head to see the faces of those I love to see and a short while later
I park up.
Alan and Zoe have gone cycling and by the looks of it are going to be some time. I put my bag in their house and head into the centre of Stockport.
There are some things I need to get, so I enjoy the sun and go shopping
At the same time wandering the alleys and putting the whole map together in my head.
After getting the important things I head into Cash converters, this one is empty.
But this one is not.
Having brought a game from the empty Cash Converters, the full one had nothing I wanted! I went into the CEX shop and then headed to the pub.
I got a pint, in an old mans glass, I pondered do I look that old?
The good thing is my Retro Gamer mag came out and I read that whilst awaiting and trying to drink my pint slowly.
Alan and Zoe turned up and they suggested I ate here, as they had already eaten and that I should really try one the hot dogs. We, as in the three of us look at the menu, and a Bloody Mary Hot Dog is chosen. When it comes I’m not disappointed.
The spicy fries are spicy too.
Its time to leave and I notice the one shop I still have not been in is Retro Reload. Maybe next time. They push their bikes and walk along side me in the afternoon sun, saying things like, your very red Nack.
I get to see Zoe and Alan's handy work with the green house and the garden. The fence me and Alan did is still standing. It is an original feature.
Zoe turns on the Snooker and I settle next to her, Mr Tickle and Alan.
And every now and again my eyes close.
Not for a minute but for a long time. They wake me to say they are going to order a Chinese.
They wake me to say the Chinese has come.
And eventually I awake again. And although its early I have
to tell them I need to go to bed, I’m just so very very comfy and tired. Its trying stuff, its nice to be able to relax in good company, its nice to be back………..
