So the alarm goes off, and I do get up, eventually.
I get in my MX5 and start her up.
We are going for a nice trip.
But first a stop at the cash machine. While I struggle to find the cash to keep her going, I still don’t want to say goodbye to my 1995 Eunos Raodster VR-Ltd Combination B. And for her age she is still looking good.
Soon we are heading north.
And enjoying the road.
Up the M1 and for 21 year old car she is driving nicely still.
There are quiet a few MX5’s here to.
A while longer up the MX5 and we are nearing Sheffield.
Soon it is time to come off, I look for the directions that are on paper.
You ca never trust these black box things, and LEs was muttering about going through Rotherham last night. I cant see why though?
And we are into the country side.
And here is Wentworth village.
And here is the entrance to Wentworth Park.
I’d like to say we are here.
As in here. And no we didn’t go via Rotherham. Going to Manchester latter will be fun over the snake pass.
So I drive in the park to where we are directed to park in front of the house.
So for the spring Mx5 rally they have arranged it for a bit of culture rather than a race track like last years spring rally. We are at Wentworth Woodhouse, the largest private home in Europe!
I’m nice and early.
And need to be as I’m booked on the first tour of the house.
Starting orders at the entrance gate, get your membership passes ready.
And head on in
I have a few minutes to mooch and do so dribbling.
Looking how some cars are lavished.
So this is the hall, sorry house.
Someone has found an old car to car in front of it. Before some parks an MX5 in front of it.
I look in the engine bay as I’m sad.
And start dribbling again.
I like old cars, but so much maintenance all the time.
I go inside and find out where the tour starts.
I get a leaflet and wait.
During which time its made clear to me, that no photos are allowed to be taken in the house. It is a private house and that's how that want to keep it. Hell what are they going to show us! The bathrooms with people showering?
A while latter after a very interesting tour of some of the house, not the bathrooms I come out to the band playing.
I take a moment to listen.
Before going off to drool once more.
Not as many show cars here this year.
More engines, and a Jackson Racing intake.
Must be a bugger for speed bumps!
Ohh a super dooper charger.
All very dramatic.
But even the cockpit is now allowed to get dirty.
Nice to see something a bit different.
A but inspirational.
Cars that haven't bee at the shows I’ve been to before.
Well the Spring Rallys,
In a way I want one, in a way I prefer my own.
This white one was very interesting. Like the owner.
Someone tells me where I can get a plaqcard and off I go and get it. My day is made!
But god it is cold here today.
I keep moving though.
Somethings are just so nice.
Look how lavish it is.
And in a way it is a great background.
Under the hood once more.
so much polishing.
As MX5’s go, I’m not that interested in spending time looking at the newer cars, but there are some that catch my eye.
And still make wonderful photos!
I head back though
Towards the houndreds of cars parked up.
to refind my own
ah there is is.
In all its well used glory.
I fill the boot with Wentworth Brewer beer, and a couple of Spring Rally beers they have done. Well I imagine put a different label on. These will be great for when Alan and Zoe come next weekend.
And while the boot is open
The yearly placard goes on for each really I have attended.
It is sad but my favourite bit!
I settle down for some lunch.
And read the map on how to head over the snake pass.
It has been a while since I last took this route.
And so it is time to say goodbye.
I sink into my seat.
take the roof down and start the engine.
and so that was Wentworth Woodhouse.
They could do with a new drive.
And before you know it we pass through Sheffield
and into the country side.
And while it beats the motorway.
The snake pass isn’t as good as I remembered it.
Sometime later I hit the outskirts of Stockport via a road I’ve never been down before. But it comes out where I know I am.
I head around Rosie's where her parents are DIYing, or watching her DIY, or something like that.
Inparticular she wants her shelf up. So a bit of bonding with her dad who has a loyalty card foe Edgley Discounts and the shelf is kind of put up.
Bloom screws and bracket design. A long time later 3 are properly in and
the fourth needs a different screw driver or it just chew, yes the screws are that tight. At least this shelf is never ever going to fall off the wall. I guarantee it!
I give her a beer or two.
And while she gets cleaned up I fill the hole in the ceiling for her. Mind it is so big this is an initial fill and needs another and then a final flat one. I tell her, she seems to have listened!
And with that we go out for some chips, along with Matt, which is good as I didn’t bring a coat and it is raining, so he lends me one and drives us to the centre, where we go to Bakers. Where they have stopped doing food. Having had a drink this changes to a Greek restaurant. These are the dearest chips I’ve ever had, or not as the case is. And we seem to get a comedian as a waiter.
We all go home eventually, having said goodnight I nip to Alan's and Zoë's to say a quick hello, where I sit on the sofa, And think to myself, I like it here so much, I’ve missed this sofa, and I’ve missed this pair. Alan has cooked something but I really must go somewhere else to, so I give him a beer or three and head off towards Poyton and beyond to Bollington, not knowing where I am going in the dark. And just as I pull up at number 5 the front room lights go out. I know the door, it opens to a cheeky grin, and a we where down your end most of the day. I hand over a couple of bottles and head straight off, it is late and I want bed. I stayed at Alan and Zoe’s much longer than I anticipated.
On the motorway I see some light catching up. Holly bum, is the MOT up?
As it happens though he wants the car that has been sitting on my tail. Makes me wander though, I’d forgotten to get the car MOT’ed! Is it due or meant to have been done.
I drive on in the darkness of 1995 lights and the bumpy racing suspension.
I arrive home ready for bed. I look for the MOT certificate. Where is it, why is not in the MX5 folder. Hold on its in the glove box. Yep it need an MOT before the 9th May. Better sort that out then promptly.
What a wonderful day in so many ways.
