DSC06759

Les picks me up and not as early as I thought he would. Yep I’m waiting for him and today we are heading south to his favourite place, Coventry.

DSC06760

We park up on his office car park and then walk into the city.

DSC06761

A nice bouncy bridge. Mind its not the only one on route.

DSC06764

We wander merrily down the canal. DSC06762

You would think you were somewhere nicer.

DSC06767

Then as you head past this bridge

DSC06768

ad up this one, that your not anywhere nice.

DSC06769

Your definitely in Coventry.

DSC06793

We wander via the transport museum where the first batch of cars are parked this year.DSC06786

They even have the latest Telsa here!

DSC06789

Lovely wheels for an strange and futurist car that you

DSC06788

can actually buy if your rich enough. It is the future though.

DSC06771

Now back to the past. A modern classic.

DSC06773

Followed by a true classic.

DSC06774

There’s nothing like Jag engineering from the past.

DSC06776

Then back to more a more modern car

DSC06779

And then back to Jag Engineering from the past.

DSC06783

And that's why I like the classic car bit of this weekend. Its a mix bag of old and new classic vehicles. There is one classic missing though!

DSC06791

No this is not it. Where could it be?

DSC06790

Ah now while this girl is being ignored. She has quiet rightly brought along a rare modern classic.

IMG_20160604_234336

And she knows it. Its the only one here in Coventry and a lovely example.

DSC06794

in a car park around the corner there are more gems.

DSC06799

Ah and there is a true classic.

DSC06802

And wonderfully kept inside too.

DSC06803

Then back to a Jag.

DSC06806

And another classic.

DSC06807

Now here is something that is very rare now.

DSC06808

Wow I’d love to have a go in this.

DSC06811

And back to some Jags. Nice to.

DSC06813

And then two more modern classics.

DSC06819

But if you want something a little different they don’t get much different than this fiat 500. Not all is what it seems.

DSC06820

Its an estate!

DSC06821

And the owner put her back together and then drove her to Italy for a 500 festival. Wow, one epic journey!

DSC06822

We move on through the city.

DSC06823

Do you ever feel your being watched.

DSC06825

Then there was this. You could peer into it and see, well another world! There was eye holes all over it so you could get different views! DSC06826

Past the town hall and down the road that there was lots of cars last year.

DSC06829

This year though it was the Stag area.

DSC06833

Even today a classy looking machine.

DSC06835

Les wanted to join the club.

DSC06839

And I don’t blame him.

DSC06843

As we move under the famous statue there’s more old cars to adore.

DSC06842

Wow weeee

IMG_20160604_234602

This brings us on to some mini’s.

DSC06848

Such lovely examples.

DSC06849

Brum Brum.

 DSC06856

Then you get the plastic cars.

IMG_20160604_234632

Impractical, light, ridiculous to get in. But mega fun, smiles all round and a British engineered car with foreign made parts.

DSC06852

So back to a mini which is properly convertible.

DSC06858

Wickedly done. DSC06859

And has character.

DSC06860

But there is one particular classic here we should pay pilgrimage too.

DSC06861

Yes the Mk MX5.

DSC06868

We wander around the corner to where

DSC06871

we go back to the future.

DSC06872

Interesting that this is 304 stst, why is it not rusting then?

DSC06875

Or have we just gone back. A Princess and a caravan. So very British and such an appalling car In design.

DSC06877

We used to make them good  like this

DSC06878

And this.

DSC06879

With a bit to eat at Gregs we get the map out.

DSC06880

And in a square there is a bikes area. Here we have Triumph and Honda. But these Triumph bike look real good. I can see me on one of these.

DSC06883

Yes I can.

DSC06885

We continue to wander over to the racing area.

DSC06887

When I say racing what I mean is drifting.

DSC06890

And so the tyre smoke begins.

DSC06892

And lots of it.

DSC06894

For a while it is thrilling.

DSC06899

And then after a while it is not.

DSC06903

Really

DSC06906

Then someone crashed.

DSC06920

Things got more exciting

DSC06929

When an MX5 Mk1 came out to play.

DSC06935

A lovely car.

IMG_20160604_235441

Built for the job.

DSC07018

Low powered maybe, pbut put to shame the bigger brutes!

DSC06959

Mind this one had a turbo charger on it!

DSC06960

Then we head to the race race area, where really they do not race.

DSC06963

So i wander off looking at yet more cars.

DSC06964

This one is jet engine powered.

DSC06971

Then Classic Citroen Engineering area, this will be fun.

DSC06981

ohh yeah

DSC06970

Lovely DS stuff as i the original DS stuff not this modern crap.

DSC06972

A dream machine. DSC06974

Do you remember these. I near brought one, but came to my senses and got a cavalier.

DSC06977

Ah another rarity now.

DSC06978

The eggs yes of course the eggs.

DSC06979

Simple, so very very simple it was mad!

 DSC06982

And then to another convertible sensation.

DSC06984

Wow that would be so nice to cruse in.

DSC06986

Yeah so stylish.

DSC06988

Les and Rob though want to watch cars go round, not racing.

DSC06989

So we watch trucks instead.

DSC06998

then a few cars.

DSC06997

A bored steward.

DSC07005

a mini DSC07020

The crowd.

DSC07032

A flash sports car.

DSC07052

A steward wearing a cowboy hat.

DSC07049

And then the racing that wasn’t racing came to an end.

DSC07060

And we went to the Castle ground.

DSC07059

Where we discussed the day.

DSC07056

And my brother a Strawberry beer.

DSC07057

So what did you buy from Wilko’s then Nack when you went in.

IMG_20160604_173624

oh just some blue towels.

DSC07058

Look they’ve had Banks bitter in here.

PANO_20160604_130118

And with that we left.

IMG_20160604_185142

Les took us to a pub in Knowle.

IMG_20160604_185139

I had a Veggie burger and a Guinness.
