I’m not good at getting up early. And for once I had to have a rest on the motorway. I needed a break.
I needed a pot of tea and a bit of a bun.
I watch the other cars go by as the sun comes up. Not far to Kendal now. about one hour away. And the last time I was in Kendel was 1990. Yeah a long time ago.
After day one of the two day meeting I headed to find my bed for the night and then considered what I was going to do with myself.
As my travel lodge was in the middle of nowhere, I decide to head towards even more nothingness. To the valley I love so much of Chapel Stile and Great Langdale.
I love the hills here.
From here I consider my options.
Yep I know where I’m going.
But do you?
Single lane maddness.
And of course the warning signs are there.
The car struggles, and the road in nowhere carries on as far as the eyes can see.
In a way it is a wonderful drive.
And soon on the horizon we are there.
I park up for a moment, take in the air and well grab a stone.
From here we carry on upwards for a while longer.
Before I park up
A short walk and I am here.
Here I’ve been before, several times, but here I am again.
Hardnott Roman Fort.
The view as the sunsets is wonderful. Just me up here and the view. Nothing else. I have a look around…
And put some rocks in the boot. You never know when they will come in handy.
As I drive along I see a very tempting sight.
But realise it will be best to get out of this wilderness before it gets darker.
I turn the lights on. Perhaps I can see what's coming now.
I head back to Chapel Stile
And a place I know that I’m happy at.
I settle in for the night and get my writing pen out.
There’s nothing like a place to relax and write. I just have so very little to write about.
And so eventually its time to leave.
And refind my place for the night.
Its one comfy bed.
