A Handle On Things

DSC_9862

Today I had a parcel come from the Slovakia. Opening the box reviled this. A part for the Skoda Superb Mk2. An interior drivers door handle.

DSC_9863

And interesting bit of plastic. What was going to be more interesting would be changing it.

DSC_9866

To get the trim off start at this end. Push your trim levers in and it will pop up slightly making breaking plastic noises.

DSC_9865

Not to worry, it is just the plastic clips inside releasing.

DSC_9868

Where you have to use some force use a much wider blade underneath to protect the plastic trim you are not removing.

DSC_9869

Once you have gone down the line, it will pump up.

DSC_9870

As you lift up rotate it up via the front.

DSC_9871

Once loose, the cables need removing from the switches.

DSC_9873

The mirror switch is easy, prise from the rear and

DSC_9874

rotate around the front and lift out.

DSC_9875

The windown switch however is much more firmly held into position.

DSC_9877

Remove the difficult to remove wiring plug, it is tightly on. Pull the light blue tag which is held down by a spring. It will release but it is tricky.

DSC_9878

yay it is off.

DSC_9879

Manky handle. Now lets take this somewhere, where we can work on it to get the window buttons out.

DSC_9880

So here we have the old and new.

DSC_9882

To get the window buttons out, cut the one side of the box off that is holding the buttons in. Cut along with a Stanley knife across where the tags are, making sure you o not break the tags. Once like this they are only held in by 3 other clips on the other side, which makes it so much easier to get it out.

DSC_9883

Prise on the side with the tags still in and gently push on the window buttons, and pop, it comes out of position.

DSC_9884

Remove.

DSC_9886

And then sit them in the new grab handle.

DSC_9888

Press on the back and click they will be very snug once more.

DSC_9889

The then in with the mirror switch.

DSC_9890

Nicely done.

DSC_9891

Lets say goodbye to the old manky handle, and dispose of it carefully in accordance with your local refuse rules.

DSC_9892

Take the handle to the car.

DSC_9894

Plug the wires in.

DSC_9895

And then position the grand handle so the front and outer faces are being inserted first.

DSC_9896

You should get to a position like this.

DSC_9897

Then push firmly down and go all around it.

DSC_9898

Job done.

DSC_9899

And that is great. No more urrg when you close the door.
